WHAT IS DAS?

This is where you earn your freedom! (DAS) The Direct Access Scheme, (A2) Standard motorcycle training and (A1) light motorcycle training are designed to allow you to advance and take your practical test, enabling you to ride without L plates, with a pillion and on motorways, oh, and of course, a lot cheaper insurance!

In order to take a DAS, A1 or A2 courses you must hold a Provisional or Full Driving Licence and a valid CBT certificate before you can undertake practical instruction. Before taking the practical test you must also however have passed your theory test.

A1 - Light motocycle (125cc)

If you are aged 17 or over, you can take your theory test and then both parts of the practical motorcycle test using a 125cc motorcycle or scooter of 14.68BHP (11KW) of power.  After passing these tests, you will be limited to the power and size mentioned, have no need for L plates, carry a pillion passsenger and ride on motorways.  Note you will be limited to riding a machine of no more than 14.6BHP (11KW) of power.

DAS - Category A (Approx 600cc) Unrestricted Motorcycling

If you are aged 24 or over, you can take your theory test and then both parts of the practical motorcycle test using a motorcycle of at least 595cc and at least 53.6BHP (40KW) of power. Only after passing these tests, will you be licenced to ride any motorcycle of any cc and any power, have no need for L plates, carry a pillion passenger and also ride on  motorways.

If you are taking this test after already passing Category A1 or A2 (see above), you will not need to re-take the theory test. If you are taking this test after passing the A1 test and have at least two years' experience of riding in the A2 category, you can take this test before you are aged 24, meaning that it would be possible to pass A2 at the age of 19, ride for 2 years and take this test at the age of 21.

Or...stay as you are and ride your 125cc under your CBT. The only thing you will have to do, is renew the CBT certificate every two years.

Call  01737 652800 if you have any enquiries, and to book your DAS, A1 or A2 course.
